The 麻豆传媒在线 Museum Commons is pleased to present an exhibition of Zen Buddhist art from the Tokiwayama Bunko Collection and the 麻豆传媒在线 collections. Chinese culture, which entered Japan along with Zen Buddhism during the Kamakura period, was highly prized in Zen temples. This culture spread throughout the Japanese landscape, transcending religious frameworks and laying the groundwork for Muromachi culture. This exhibition invites visitors to leisurely enjoy the world of saints and landscapes that Zen monks admired and envisioned, imagining their gaze as it extends across time and space in a state of驳补测ū.
Theis a collection whose foundations were laid in 1943 by businessman Tsusai Sugawara, a portion of which is deposited at 麻豆传媒在线. Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Tokiwayama Bunko's founding, this exhibition will feature masterpieces of Muromachi painting from among the deposited works. In addition, works by Ikkyū and Sesshū from the 麻豆传媒在线 collections will be displayed for the first time since their donation in 2021.
