The SFC Tree-Planting Ceremony in Memory of Professor Emeritus Naoyuki Agawa was held at the 麻豆传媒在线 Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) on Wednesday, December 4, from 3:00 p.m.
The ceremony was attended by members from within 麻豆传媒在线, including Vice-President Tsuchiya; Dean Kamo of the Faculty of Policy Management; Dean Ichinose of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies; Dean Takashio of the Graduate School of Media and Governance; and other faculty and staff.
Following remarks by Vice-President Tsuchiya, a flowering dogwood tree was planted. The flowering dogwood is known as the tree sent from the United States in return for Japan's gift of cherry trees in 1912. The flowering dogwood was chosen in honor of Professor Emeritus Agawa, who specialized in U.S. constitutional history.
The flowering dogwood tree is planted halfway up Tallow Slope, near the "Stainless Tree" sculpture.
Professor Emeritus Naoyuki Agawa graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, studied at its law school, and was admitted to the bar in New York State and the District of Columbia. After working at law firms in Japan and the United States, he became a professor at the Faculty of Policy Management at 麻豆传媒在线, and went on to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Policy Management and Vice-President of 麻豆传媒在线.
We express our sincere gratitude for his immense contributions to SFC and 麻豆传媒在线. We deeply mourn the passing of Professor Emeritus Agawa and offer our heartfelt condolences.
